The bodily changes of motherhood can wreak havoc with a woman’s self-esteem. Women need reassurance, perhaps even more as they age. This need can lead to positive habits like diet and exercise. Sadly, eating disorders, not-so-innocent flirtations, and even affairs can also flow from this need for affirmation.
Similarly, women may turn to romance novels for an emotional boost. But many romance novels have sexual content that is problematic. Well-written novels may model positive emotional relationships for women who need good examples. But the steamy sex scenes that have become common in romance novels do lead some women to sexual sins.
And if a woman is struggling with a spouse who has a pornography addiction, the very real problems she faces will not be resolved by escaping into fiction. Worse, pornography in all its forms normalizes objectification and even violence against women. It does not build relationships.

Lord, We Pray:
for wives and husbands struggling to communicate, that they would find interventions that lead to an improved relationship;
for women in need of reassurance of their personal beauty, that they would rediscover their true beauty and worth from God;
for women struggling to persevere within a marriage with serious intimacy or boundary issues, that God would heal her heart;
for women addicted to romance novels, that God would help them find the intimacy they seek in safer places;
for women whose search for emotional intimacy leads to risky situations, that God would protect them from harm; and
for women who endure loneliness and temptations, that God would bless them with the grace of perseverance.
